Youth Activities

Funding from various sources including The Robertson Trust and Cashback for Communities has enabled us to employ 3 new workers to develop and provide facilities for the young people of Stobswell.

We now provide youth groups for 8 years upwards on 4 evenings per week. Boomerang provide the facilities for young people to meet and socialise in a safe environment off the street which is now seen by the client group as "Their Place".

The facility provides young people with a number of activities, and gives access to information, a pool table, music, television, snacks, and a wide range of soft drinks. Part of our work with the youth has been to instill a sense of community responsibility in the young people.

There are 3 groups active at Boomerang catering for 8-12 years, 13-16 years and 16+ years.

Boomerang aims to create opportunities which are challenging and exciting to enable local young people to learn and develop in a supportive environment. To these ends Boomerang is committed to working with young people and volunteers to secure -

  • The provision of a safe 'local' place where young 8-18 year-olds can socialise, meet friends and adults (other than parents) which is 'hassle-free',cheap, warm, and frequently open.

  • Access to information, help and advice that is confidential, informal and relaxed, which has clearly defined points of help and assistance for young people.

  • A range of different challenging, exciting activities which enable young people to develop and learn, build confidence and gain self-esteem.

  • A voice for young people which encourages democratic citizenship, involvement, participation, and responsibility.
